D.U.I. Squad Targeted Violators in Labor Day Weekend Traffic Initiative

Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad spent several hours this past Friday night (August 31) in the Millington and North Shelby County areas conducting a traffic safety initiative. The Metro D.U.I. Squad is comprised of officers with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Germantown Police Department.

Officers focused their attention on Highway 51, Raleigh Millington Road, Highway 385 and other nearby streets. Deputies set up traffic safety checkpoints to spot drivers and their passengers not wearing seatbelts. When not at the checkpoints, officers watched for drivers who were speeding, driving recklessly or impaired by alcohol or drugs.

  • 1 Arrested for Driving Under the Influence
  • 35 Speeding
  • 28 No Seatbelt
  • 8 State Registration
  • 6 No Driver’s License
  • 3 Child Restraint
  • 3 Other County Moving Violations
  • 2 Disregard Traffic Signal/Sign

Last weekend’s traffic enforcement initiative was funded by a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to help stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
