Kiwanis Clubs Honor Sheriff Mark Luttrell As “Lawman of the Year” For Mid-South Region of the United States

Sheriff Mark LuttrellThe Kiwanis Club has named Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. as the “Lawman of the Year” for the Louisiana, Mississippi and West Tennessee District of this International charity organization. Sheriff Luttrell was nominated for the award by the Germantown and Kirby Pines clubs.

There are more than 600,000 members in 13,000 clubs. Kiwanis Clubs serve in 92 countries around the world. Thousands of Kiwanis Clubs support programs for young children and high school students.

Kiwanis Clubs also provide programs in the local community that promote citizenship and sound government principles. The “Lawman of the Year Award” is one of those initiatives.

A selection requirement was that the winner, “exemplify an unusual or exceptional way of service above the call of duty.”

“Each year the districts across the country choose law enforcement professionals who demonstrate extraordinary leadership. Sheriff Luttrell has not only been a model law enforcement officer by combating crime through partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, but he has shown fiscal responsibility by operating the Sheriff’s Office in a professional and efficient manner,” said Germantown Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy, Community Service Committee Chairman for the Germantown Kiwanis Club.

“I can’t think of a more dedicated law enforcement professional than Sheriff Luttrell. We at the Kirby Pines Kiwanis Club considered it a pleasure to put his name in nomination for this prestigious award. We are delighted the selection committee chose to honor Sheriff Luttrell,” said Bob Nichols, President of the Kirby Pines Kiwanis Club.

Sheriff Luttrell, who was elected to office in September, 2002, will receive the “Lawman of the Year Award” this weekend at a banquet in New Orleans, Louisiana. The event will be held at Noon, this Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in New Orleans.
