Search continues for two men responsible for murdering a Memphis man

Release Date: March 31, 2003

Mahoney CarThe Shelby County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s help in identifying two men responsible for the shooting death of a Memphis man this past weekend.

Forty-three year-old Filipe Hernandez, who lived at 1005 Par in the Frayser area, was killed outside a home near Millington after being shot. Sheriff’s detectives say they do not know the motive of the killing.

Witnesses say they heard gunshots shortly before nine o’clock p.m. on Saturday evening. Not long after that, investigators say Hernandez, who had already been shot once, stumbled onto the front porch of a house in the 7800 block of Mahoney Road. As he was pleading for help, one of the two assailants shot Hernandez again with a shotgun. Hernandez was dead at the scene.

Detectives say they are looking for two black men in connection with the shooting. One was of a small build, and appeared to be in his twenties. The other man is described as being tall and thin, wearing jeans and a white shirt. Both men escaped in the victim’s car, a 1989 Mercury Marquis, dark brown or maroon with dark brown primer paint on some places on the car.
