Sheriff’s Detectives arrest and charge a man in connection with recent murder

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with First Degree Murder in connection with this past weekend’s murder of a man in the Millington area. Detectives arrested 27-year-old Marcus Hayes yesterday for killing 43-three year-old Felipe Hernandez of Memphis.

Another man was also taken into custody who investigators say was with Hayes at the time of the shooting. That man has cooperated with detectives about what occurred and may not be charged.

Hernandez was initially shot in a church parking lot near a home in the 7800 block of Mahoney Road. He then ran to nearby house for help. As he pled for assistance on the front porch, investigators say Marcus Hayes shot him several more times with a 12 gage shotgun.

Detectives say Marcus Hayes lived with Hernandez at a home in Frayser. Detectives say Hernandez was killed after an argument between the two men about money.
