Neighborhood Association Near Millington Honors the Sheriff's Office With Weekend Picnic

Release Date: February 4, 2005

Residents who live along Mahoney Road near Millington will host a picnic to honor the Shelby County Sheriff's Office this weekend.

The “Sheriff's Office Appreciation Day” will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., at the Hampton United Methodist Church, 7835 Armour Road near Millington.

Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Studard will be the hosts. The Studards' home on Mahoney Road near Millington was the scene of a murder in March, 2003. An argument between two people, not related to the Studards, ended on their front porch when one of the men was shot to death. His killer was arrested and is awaiting trail.

Since 2003, however, the Studards have organized a neighborhood watch and have been strong supporters of the department.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the Studards and their neighbors. This clearly shows that good things can rise from a tragedy. The Studards' kindness demonstrates the importance of how citizens partnering with the Sheriff's Office can help keep their community safe,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Studard have now joined the ranks as volunteers in the Shelby County Sheriff's Office "Special Services Division." Squad members visit senior citizens and help with other community programs involving the Sheriff's Office.
