Residents who live along Mahoney Road near Millington will host a “soup-feast” next month to honor the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
The “Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Appreciation Day” will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., at the Hampton United Methodist Church, 7835 Armour Road near Millington.
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Studard will be the hosts. The Studards’ home at 7825 Mahoney Road was the scene of a murder on March 29, 2003. An argument between two men, not related to the Studards, ended on the Studards’ front porch when one of the men was shot to death. The killer was arrested and sent to prison.
As a result of the murder, the Studards organized a neighborhood watch and have been strong supporters of the Sheriff’s Office. Mr. and Mrs. Studard joined the Sheriff’s Office all-volunteer “Special Services” Bureau in 2004. They, along with 21 other volunteers, visit home-bound senior citizens and assist with community programs involving the Sheriff’s Office.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the Studards’ and other members of the Mahoney Road Community Association. The Studards’ kindness demonstrates how citizens can help us keep Shelby County safe,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
