Man Injured In Gang Related Shooting In East Shelby County
Release Date: June 22, 2004
Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives say a man was injured last night after an apparent drive-by shooting that is believed to be gang related.
Hugo Perez, 37, who was visiting relatives at the house in the 5700 block of Morning Flower Cove, was shot in the ankle as he lay in bed. He was taken to The Med in stable condition.
Investigators say there were eight people in the house when bullets from at least three weapons shot through the walls just before midnight. Deputies found 25 to 30 shell casings fired from a pistol, shotgun and a rifle.
The Perez family had moved to the home on Morning Flower about six months ago from the area near Summer at Waring. Investigators say the family had been the target of a similar drive-by shooting in that neighborhood.
No arrests have been made in the case. Officers with the Metro Gang Unit are investigating.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Memphis Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2247).
