Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies say a Cordova man was killed last night as he walked along the road near his home.
Just before 7 o'clock, James Patterson, 61, was walking west on Dexter Road near Charles Bryan.
Investigators say as Patterson stepped out into traffic to walk around some mailboxes, he was hit by a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Andre Stephen Tyler, 28, of Cordova.
There are no sidewalks on this stretch of Dexter Road.
Deputies say Tyler, who was also traveling west, won't be charged since there was no way he could have avoided hitting Patterson.
The victim was taken to The Regional Medical Center where died.
