Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives have arrested a woman who was using her home in South-East Memphis to grow more than a quarter of a MILLION dollars worth of marijuana. Deputies found dozens of marijuana plants and harvested marijuana late Tuesday night.
About eleven o’clock Tuesday night (September 11), Sheriff’s Narcotics Bureau Deputies were driving near Echels Street at Wilshire Drive while checking an anonymous complaint about drug activity. As they approached the intersection, officers smelled marijuana.
Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brian Dill arrived with his drug detection dog and traced the aroma to the house at 3643 Wilshire. Deputies knocked on the door and the resident, Hosezetta Spencer, 58, allowed the detectives to go inside.
Deputies saw marijuana cigarettes and seeds in the living room. In other rooms, detectives discovered almost 60 marijuana plants grown by lights and chemicals which produce a higher grade of the drug. More than 300 grams of harvested marijuana were also found in the house.
Spencer told Deputies she lived alone at the house and would not give any explanation about the marijuana growing operation.
Spencer has been charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Manufacture, Deliver or Sell
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
