Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Deputies and The Metro DUI Squad To Be Out In Force This Memorial Day Weekend

Release Date: May 26, 2004

The Metro D.U.I. Unit as well as the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division will be on high alert this holiday weekend to stop anyone they believe may be driving under the influence.

“We know this is one of the busiest times of the year for holiday travelers. We’ll be using every possible resource to keep our streets safe from impaired drivers,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

This Friday night, May 28, and the following Monday night, May 31, additional officers will be conducting seat belt safety check-points, watching for impaired drivers, and patrolling in a “zero tolerance” mode for traffic violations in the South-East Shelby County area.

The seat belt check-points will be at Hacks Cross at Shelby Drive and on Riverdale south of Holmes Road. Since February of this year there have been 19 accidents in the area involved in the enforcement effort.

“Our goal is to have no person hurt this weekend in a traffic crash, especially a crash involving an impaired driver,” added Sheriff Luttrell.
