Memorial Service Planned For Deceased Employees Who Have Served At the Shelby County Jail
Release Date: April 28, 2004
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be paying tribute to former jail staff members at a ceremony next week at the Criminal Justice Center.
“We will gather to recognize the accomplishments of those staff members we have lost to death over the years. It’s important the families of these employees know we appreciate their efforts and want to remember them at this special service,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
The current jail facility opened in 1981. Since that time, about 50 employees have died who once worked at the jail. Relatives and friends of those former employees are invited to the event.
The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Criminal Justice Center at 201 Poplar Avenue.
“This is just another way of saying thank you for the sacrifice these employees have made while working at the jail. We are hoping many of their relatives will be with us at the recognition ceremony,” added Sheriff Luttrell.
