Metro DUI Squad Issues 275 Violations in Safety Initiative

The Metro DUI Squad issued 275 traffic violations in a county-wide traffic safety initiative last night. The squad is comprised of officers with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Germantown Police Department.
Officers, including Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputies assigned to the squad, watched for drivers who might be impaired by alcohol and drugs. The DUI Officers also looked for people speeding, driving recklessly and not wearing seat belts. Here are the results of the safety initiative:
Regular/Courtesy Violations: 270
- Speeding 134
- Seat Belt Violations 74
- State Registration 17
- Disregarding a Stop Sign 16
- Vehicle Equipment Violations 13
- Financial Responsibility 10
- Other Shelby County Moving Violations 2
- Disregarding a Stop Light 2
- No Driver’s License 1
- Other Shelby County Non-Moving Violations 1
Violations that led to Arrests: 5
- Driving on a Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled License 3
- Driving Under the Influence 1
- Juvenile Summons 1
Last night’s Metro DUI enforcement initiative was funded by a grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Office. The grant enables law enforcement officers across Tennessee to work additional hours to spot and arrest drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
