Metro DUI Squad Issues Violations in Weekend Safety Initiative

The Metro DUI Squad issued 177 violations last Friday night during a county-wide traffic enforcement effort.  Nine (9) persons were arrested. The squad is comprised of officers with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Germantown Police Department. 

On June 13th, Officers, including Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputies assigned to the squad, watched for drivers who might be impaired by alcohol and drugs. The DUI Officers also looked for people speeding or driving recklessly. Here are the results of the safety initiative:

Regular/Courtesy Violations: 168

  • Speeding 68
  • Seat Belt Violation 50
  • State Registration 16
  • Other Shelby County Non-Moving Violations 14
  • Disregarding a Stop Sign 7
  • No Driver’s License 5
  • Child Restraint Violation 4
  • Other Shelby County Moving Violations 3
  • Disregarding a Stop Light 1

Violations that led to Arrests: 9

  • Driving on a Suspended, Revoked or Cancelled License 7
  • Felony Possession of a Handgun 1
  • Felony Drug Possession-53.4 g of marijuana 1

Last weekend’s Metro DUI enforcement initiative was funded by a grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Office. The grant enables law enforcement Officers across Tennessee to work additional hours to spot and arrest drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
