Weekend Traffic Safety Effort Near Millington Nets 82 Traffic Violations and Six Arrests
Release Date: March 7, 2005
Shelby County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies and Officers with the Metro D.U.I. Unit and Millington Police Department conducted a joint law enforcement traffic safety initiative in the Millington and North Shelby County areas this past Friday night (March 4).
Motorists passing through the area of Highway 51 and State Route 385 (Paul Barret Parkway) were greeted by officers for several hours Friday evening, who checked to see that drivers and their passengers were wearing seat belts. In almost 50 cases, adults and children were not bucked up. Other violations were also noted that involved expired vehicle registrations and other minor violations.
High traffic volumes in this part of Shelby County have increased the number of incidents involving speeding, reckless driving and those who are driving while impaired from alcohol or drugs.
Here are the results of the four-hour operation:
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and Officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad issued 63 traffic tickets and arrested four people; two for impaired driving, one person for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and one person in possession of a stolen pistol.
Millington Police Department Officers handed out 19 traffic tickets and arrested two people; one on outstanding charges and the other person for public intoxication.
The “zero tolerance” enforcement efforts will be on-going. They are funded by a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
