Millington Woman Killed in Traffic Crash Involving Dump Truck

Release Date: November 8, 2005

A collision today between a dump truck loaded with asphalt and another vehicle killed a Millington woman and left her husband critically injured.

The crash happened just after seven o’clock this morning. Traffic investigators say Felisa Hines, 34, of Millington, was driving a Mercury Tracer south on Deadfall Road near the Bolton area.

As her vehicle passed through the intersection at Millington-Arlington Road, it collided with a dump truck loaded with 23 tons of asphalt that was going west on Millington-Arlington Road.

Deputies say Ms. Hines apparently didn’t see the dump truck which hit the driver’s side of her vehicle. The truck pushed Ms. Hines’ vehicle off the roadway about 25 yards where it came to rest in a field. Ms. Hines was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband, Barry, whose age is not known at this time, was critically injured and airlifted to the Regional Medical Center where he remains in serious condition.

The driver of the dump truck, Willie J. Stokes, 65, of Gates, Tennessee, was not hurt. No charges have been filed.

So far this year, 6 people have died on Shelby County roads patrolled by Sheriff’s Deputies.
