Sheriff’s Deputies Assist Milwaukee Police With Murder Investigation

Release Date: May 24, 2006

Dakeyal JohnsonMilwaukee Police Department commanders are praising the work of several Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives for their assistance in a murder investigation.

Sheriff’s Deputies were contacted last week about the possibility of Dakeyal Johnson, 26, of Milwaukee, being in the Shelby County area.  Johnson was wanted on a parole violation for walking away from a half-way house in that city a few months ago.

Deputies and other officers with the Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force found Johnson at his girlfriend’s apartment in the Hickory Hill area this past Friday evening.

Once in custody, Milwaukee Police told Sheriff’s Deputies that Johnson had become the focus of a murder on February 12th this year at a Milwaukee night club.

Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Vernon Dollahite, Jr. and fellow Detective Terrell Robertson went to the jail and interviewed Johnson about why he was in Memphis. During that conversation Johnson alluded to the Sheriff’s Detectives that he had committed a crime earlier this year.

When Milwaukee Police Officers arrived at the Sheriff’s Detective Bureau this week to talk to Johnson, he admitted that he shot a man to death at the Milwaukee night club back in February. Johnson was then taken back to Wisconsin to face the murder charge.
