Shelby County Deputies Search For Missing Mississippi Man
Release Date: December 20, 2004
Shelby County Sheriff's Detectives are investigating the disappearance of a south Mississippi man whose semi tractor-trailer was found in East Shelby County this past weekend.
Deputies are looking for James H. Tate, Jr, 34, of Tylertown, Mississippi. Tate is employed by a Memphis trucking firm. Family members spoke to him by phone this past Thursday but have not heard from him since.
Friday morning, the trailer he was hauling was found by Bartlett Police along Brunswick Road near Highway 64. The doors of the trailer had been opened but apparently nothing was taken.
Then early on Saturday morning, a resident on Berryhill near Macon Road reported seeing Tate's abandoned truck cab parked in a vacant lot. Investigators say it had been ransacked.
Relatives say they have tried phoning Tate on his cell phone but no calls have been returned.
John Tate is a black man, stands 5'11 and weighs approximately 155 pounds. Investigators do not have a clothing description.
Anyone with information about Tate's whereabouts should call the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Detective Division at (901) 545-5600.
