Shelby County Deputies Continue Search For Mississippi Truck Driver

Release Date: January 6, 2005

James TateShelby County Sheriff's Detectives say they still have few clues about the disappearance of a south Mississippi man whose abandoned tractor-trailer was found in East Shelby County last month.

Deputies are looking for James H. Tate, Jr, 34, of Tylertown, Mississippi. Tate is employed by a Memphis trucking firm. Family members last spoke to him by phone on December 16 but have not heard from him since.

The next day, the trailer he was hauling was found by Bartlett Police along Brunswick Road near Highway 64. Then a day later, a resident on Berryhill near Macon Road reported seeing Tate's abandoned truck cab parked on a vacant lot.

Relatives say they have continued phoning Tate on his cell phone but no calls have been returned.

James Tate is a black man, stands 5'11 and weighs approximately 155 pounds. Investigators do not have a clothing description.

Anyone with information about Tate's whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274) or the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Detective Division at (901) 545-5600.
