Deputies Capture Suspected Murderer of Three in Nashville

Release Date: August 9, 2004

Kelvin Dewayne KingThree arrest warrants charging criminal homicide are being issued in Nashville tonight charging Kelvin Dewayne King of Memphis with Wednesday’s murders of Koehler Ramsey, Marcus Allen Anderson and Brittany Goodman.

King, 28, was identified by Metro police as a person of interest in the triple homicide case Wednesday afternoon and was thought to be in the Memphis area. Deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office located King early today inside a home in northeast Shelby County. He agreed to accompany deputies and await the arrival in Memphis of Metro Homicide detectives.

During the investigation of King this morning, Shelby County deputies located two witnesses, who, during interviews with Metro detectives this afternoon, provided important information about the triple homicide case. Based on the information developed thus far, investigators believe that King, who was an acquaintance of Anderson’s, suddenly shot Anderson and Ramsey inside Ramsey’s North Nashville apartment. The reason remains unclear. It is believed that King then drove to Anderson’s Bellevue apartment and killed Goodman, Anderson’s girlfriend, because Goodman knew that Anderson had been with King on Wednesday. It does not appear than Koehler and King had a prior relationship.

Goodman’s missing car, a 2002 Toyota Solara, was recovered today from a Memphis detailing shop. Staff there reported that King dropped the car off.

“This murder investigation came together quickly because of the tremendous assistance of Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell and his investigators,” Chief Ronal Serpas said. “Our two agencies work very well together and we are very appreciative of the help in pursuing vital leads in the Memphis area.”

King did not engage in a meaningful interview with investigators. He is considered a security risk and is not being returned to Nashville tonight. He will be housed in the Shelby County Jail and will be brought back to Nashville in a secure environment in the near future.
