Sheriff’s Office Joins Community Effort To Highlight “National Child Passenger Safety Week”
Release Date: February 10, 2006
The Shelby County Crime Prevention Unit will join other community agencies and businesses next weekend to promote “National Child Passenger Safety Week.”
The community event will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet, 2471 Mt. Moriah Road, from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. It is sponsored by Safe Kids Mid-South, headquartered at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center, Kohl’s Cares for Kids and Chuck Hutton Chevrolet.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Sheriff’s Office to link with other agencies and businesses in Shelby County. Our Deputies find that many children are not properly restrained in child safety seats or booster seats while riding in vehicles. This will be an important community program to help keep children safe,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
Safe Kids Mid- South technicians and volunteers will be joined by Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Beth Braden, also a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor, to teach parents and caregivers how to properly install and use their child safety seats. Deputy Braden and Sheriff’s Crime Prevention Officer Les Haynes will also be giving tours of the Sheriff’s “Child Restraint Education Vehicle.”
The Safe Kids Chevy Venture “Car Seat Check-Up Van” will also be on display.
For more information about the community program at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet or the coalition, contact Susan Helms, Director of Injury Prevention and Safe Kids at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center at (901) 572-6730.
