Sheriff’s Deputies To Support National Police Week Events

Release Date: May 9, 2005

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will join with law enforcement agencies across the county to support National Police Week events. Shelby County Deputies will be displaying blue ribbons on the antennas of their squad cars during the week of May 15-21.

The blue ribbons signify support of law enforcement and recognize the heroic lives of law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

The local “COPS” (Concerns of Police Survivors) organization is urging all citizens throughout the Mid-South to display a blue ribbon on their vehicle to demonstrate their support of law enforcement officers.

During the National Police Week events in Washington, D.C., family members and close work associates of Shelby County Deputy Tim Dunn will be honored during a ceremony at the Capitol.

Deputy Dunn, assigned to the Metro Gang Unit, was killed in a traffic crash on Highway 70 at Brunswick Road in October, 2004. He was on his way to conduct a criminal investigation in the Bartlett area.
