Elderly Woman Found in Neighborhood Lake Near Bartlett
Release Date: August 16, 2005
Detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office say an elderly woman who apparently wandered away from her home early this morning was found dead in Spring Lake, a private lake in a neighborhood near Bartlett.
Investigators say the body of Irene Argol, 79, who lived in the 4300 block of Sunset Point, was found about two hours after she was reported missing.
Her son said when he awakened about 6 o’clock this morning his mother was not in the house and the front door of the home was open. He then began looking for his mother with assistance from his neighbors and Sheriff’s Deputies.
Just after eight o’clock, a Memphis Police helicopter pilot discovered Ms. Argol’s body in Spring Lake near a home also in the 4300 block of Sunset Point.
The Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office will rule on the official cause of death. However, Deputies believe Ms. Argol, who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, apparently just wandered away from her house, fell into the lake and drowned.
