Citizens now have an easy way to report suspected terrorist activity in Shelby County. “Terrorism Tips” is a new icon on the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Homepage. The web address is www.shelby-sheriff.org

Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, citizens across the nation have become more aware of the threat of terrorism. The new Sheriff’s Office computer link allows citizens to report information anonymously to deputies.

“It is vital for citizens to partner with us and other law enforcement agencies to help keep our community safe. Tips received at the new website link will be immediately investigated,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

In 2005, the Sheriff’s Office “Homeland Security Bureau” was created to investigate possible acts of terrorism. Deputies in the S.W.A.T. and Bomb Units comprise the bureau along with other deputies who guard the entrances at all Shelby County Government office buildings including the Criminal Justice Center at 201 Poplar Avenue.

Deputies in the Sheriff’s Office Homeland Security Bureau receive constant training about terrorism. Through various grants from the federal government, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has one of the most sophisticated arsenals of equipment in the country to identify and warn the community about suspected terrorist acts.
