Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies will be on high alert tonight and on New Year’s Day looking for people who are driving recklessly or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“We know this is one of the busiest times for holiday parties. Our deputies will be keeping a close watch on traffic throughout the New Year’s Day holiday,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Deputies assigned to the Metro D.U.I., Patrol, Traffic and Reserve Units will primarily be involved in the holiday traffic enforcement effort. However, Deputies assigned to all bureaus will be on the lookout for those violating traffic laws.

Officers will be paying close attention to areas near bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.
