Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a man for illegally duplicating DVD movies and music CDs from a makeshift factory at his home.
Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office ALERT Squad (Area Law Enforcement Retailers Team) received a tip that Oman Currie, 37, was illegally copying movies and music albums at 820 Pitney Lane in Northaven.
Just before 8 o’clock last evening, ALERT Squad detectives and detectives from the Sheriff’s Office General Investigation Bureau searched the house and found a lap top computer connected to several duplicating machines.
About 2,000 illegally copied movies and music CDs worth $40,000 were confiscated along with Currie’s 1993 Infinity. Deputies say Currie used the vehicle to sell and distribute the items. A large-screen television and an Xbox system were also seized from the home.
Sheriff’s Office ALERT Squad Deputies work jointly with businesses and law enforcement agencies, both locally and nationally, to investigate crimes connected to the retail industry.
Oman Currie has been charged with Criminal Simulation over $10,000 which is a felony.
