Victim - Corey Caples |
Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives say Corey Caples, 22, was the man found shot to death late last night at the Horton Gardens Apartments in Northaven. Caples did not live in the housing community but lived nearby in a Northaven neighborhood.
Caples was found by Deputies just after 11:20 p.m. He was in the driver’s seat of a late 1990’s model Mercury Marquis that had jumped the curb at the intersection of Rouge Bluff at Steamboat Bend inside the housing development. Horton Gardens is governed by the Shelby County Housing Authority. No other persons were inside the vehicle.
Caples had been shot several times. He died at the scene. Detectives say at least two people were involved in the shooting. Neighbors reported seeing a white, late model Ford Taurus with a loud engine leaving the housing development just after the murder.
Deputies are still investigating a possible motive for the shooting. The Sheriff’s Street Crimes Bureau is working jointly with detectives in the Sheriff’s General Investigation Bureau on the case.
This is the fourth homicide investigated by Sheriff’s Deputies in 2007.
