Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested seven people and issued arrest warrants for three others today in connection with illegal drug sales in the Northaven area.
About 50 Deputies converged on the North Shelby County neighborhood about five o’clock this morning and continued their raids until just before noon.
For the past three weeks, Deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Street Crimes and Narcotics Bureaus have been working undercover in the North Shelby County neighborhood. They made 12 illegal drug buys at four houses:
- 5201 Breckenwood
- 739 Blackstone
- 5306 Beaverton
- 5286 Broken Oak
Outside drug sales were also witnessed on various streets including Beaverton and Broken Oak. Deputies targeted the houses and streets based on information from Patrol Deputies and citizens who called to report the activity.
Today’s raids included Deputies from the following Sheriff’s Office bureaus: Street Crimes, Narcotics, Patrol, SWAT, Gang and also detectives usually assigned to the Sheriff’s retail theft unit known as the ALERT Squad.
At 5306 Beaverton, Deputies took four people into custody under rather unusual circumstances. Investigators say Dameon Tate, 28, had recently burglarized the home, attacked the occupant and literally took over the residence.
When Deputies visited the home today, Tate was not there but four others were living at the house. They were arrested for Criminal Trespassing.
Also during raids, Deputies shot and killed two pit bull dogs at 5201 Breckenwood. The dogs tried to attack the Deputies when they entered the yard.
