What started out as a domestic violence call in a North Shelby County neighborhood led Deputies to a methamphetamine lab.  Some of the chemicals were being processed when officers discovered the lab in a utility barn.

Deputies were originally called about 4:30 Saturday afternoon to a house in the 9600 block of Monasco Road. A woman claimed her husband had attacked her.

Before Deputies arrived at that house, the woman’s husband left.

He drove a golf cart to the home of Robert (Cary) Rast at 9502 Monasco.  After officers spotted the golf cart at Rast’s home, they noticed a fire behind the house.  Batteries and other materials were burning in a fire pit.  Deputies also smelled strong chemical odors from a utility barn in the backyard.

The Shelby County Fire Department and detectives from the Sheriff's Office Narcotics and General Investigation Bureaus were called.  Deputies entered the barn in protective suits and found chemicals used to make methamphetamine.

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

The domestic violence suspect who went to Rast’s home has not been located.  His wife was not seriously hurt in the attack.
