Weekend Traffic Crash Kills Memphis Police Officer

Shelby County Sheriff’s Traffic Deputies say an off-duty Memphis Police Officer was killed in South Shelby County this past weekend when his motorcycle crashed into another vehicle.

Memphis Police Lieutenant Chad Golden, 36, assigned to the West Precinct, was riding north on Germantown Road just after 5 p.m. when his Suzuki motorcycle crashed into the left front fender of a Chevy pickup truck as it turned onto Germantown Road from English Drive.

Golden was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Two people were riding in the truck. Neither the driver of the truck, Mark Shaner, nor his wife, Marilyn, was hurt. Both had their seatbelts on.

No charges have been filed.
