TN Public Safety CoalitionWHAT: News Conference-Important announcement regarding pending legislative issues to reduce crime

WHO: The leadership of the Tennessee Public Safety Coalition, a delegation representing the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference, The Tennessee Sheriffs' Association and the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police

WHEN: Thursday, January 22, 2004 , 11:00 a.m.

WHERE: Nashville , Tennessee -Steps of the State Capitol Building

WHY: The Public Safety Coalition will be discussing legislative efforts to:

  • Strengthen the existing “Sexual Offender Registration and Monitoring Act”
  • Increase the number of prosecutors in district attorneys general offices, reinstate their step raises as mandated by law, and bring their salaries in-line with state-paid prosecutors in other states
  • Strengthen existing criminal laws dealing with the manufacturing or distribution of methamphetamine
