Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies Capture Alleged Vehicle Break-In Suspects After 65 Mile Pursuit by Jackson, Tennessee Officers

Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted in arresting two Memphis men early today that may be connected to more than 20 vehicle break-ins at motels along Interstate 40 in West Tennessee. The men are being questioned about other vehicle break-ins in Shelby County.
Last evening, burglars broke into 12 cars at motels in the Brownsville, Tennessee area near Interstate 40 Exit 56. Ten vehicles were broken into at Jackson, Tennessee motels near Interstate 40.
Just after midnight, Jackson, Tennessee Police officers spotted a car that had been seen in the area of many of the break-ins. Jackson officers attempted to pull the car over near the Country Inn Suites at I-40 at Exit 82. The driver refused to stop.
Jackson officers pursued the suspects’ car with assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Once inside Shelby County just after one o’clock, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies were alerted and deputies spotted the Kia Optima on Interstate 240 north bound near Watkins.
As the suspects’ car exited at Watkins, it ran off the road near Watkins and Overton Crossing. The two suspects ran from the car and were caught after a brief foot chase. Deputies identify the man as Jamil Spencer, 21, and Edward Bradley, 22, both of Memphis. Bradley was treated for minor injuries after being bitten by a Sheriff’s Office dog.

Sheriff’s Detectives say they are investigating whether the suspects are connected to several recent vehicle break-ins in Shelby County. Yesterday, six vehicles were broken into at a motel on Hacks Cross near Bill Morris Parkway.
Sheriff’s investigators are part of a law enforcement task force involving a number of agencies investigating the break-ins.
Jamil Spencer and Edward Bradley were taken back to Jackson, Tennessee and are being held in the Madison County Jail.
