Reserve Deputy Class To Begin

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a class for Reserve Deputies beginning July 17, 2006.
“We currently have 170 Reserve Deputies. It is our goal to have 300 Reserve Deputies working with us at the Sheriff’s Office,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
Reserve Deputies go through a 23-week training course which includes physical agility, the use of firearms and Sheriff’s Office policies.
Upon graduation, the officers are assigned to various divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Reserve Deputies serve at least 24 hours every month.
Those wishing to serve as a Reserve Deputy must be a U. S. Citizen, 21-years-old and pass a background check.
Reserve Deputy applications will be taken until June 2, 2006.
The applications may be mailed or picked up at the Sheriff’s Office Substation in Arlington at 11670 Memphis-Arlington Road.
