Shelby County Sheriff’s Office To Conduct Class For Reserve Deputies

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a class for Reserve Deputies beginning January 10, 2005.

“We currently have 148 Reserve Deputies. It is our goal to have 300 Reserve Deputies working with us at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Reserve Deputies go through a 23-week training course which includes 460 hours of firearms training, physical agility, and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures. Upon graduation, the officers are assigned to various divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, with most serving in the Patrol and Fugitive Units.

The officers serve at least 24-hours-a-month to maintain their status as Reserve Deputies. Applicants must be U. S. citizens, at least 21-years-old and pass a thorough background check.

Those interested in becoming a Reserve Deputy should have their applications turned in to the Sheriff’s Office Reserve Division by December 31, 2004.
