Shelby County Sheriff’s Office To Graduate Reserve Deputies Tonight

Release Date: June 21, 2005

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be graduating 28 Reserve Deputies tonight.

“We are pleased to graduate these Deputies. These Deputies are to be commended for their efforts to serve our community by working as volunteer officers,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Since January 10th of this year, the Deputies have been part of a rigorous training course which included firearms training, physical agility, and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures. The Reserve Deputies will be immediately assigned to the Patrol Division.

The graduation ceremony will be held tonight, June 21, 2005, at Al Chymia Shrine Temple, 5770 Shelby Oaks Drive, Memphis, Tennessee, at 7 p.m.

With tonight’s graduation, the Sheriff’s Office will now have 168 Reserve Deputies.

To be a Reserve Deputy, each officer is required to work at least 24 hours a month, which includes two assigned shifts and one special assignment shift.

Besides the 28 Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputies graduating, five officers from other law enforcement agencies will graduate from the Sheriff’s Training Academy this evening.

These include three officers from Oakland, Tennessee, one from Rossville, Tennessee and another officer from Somerville, Tennessee.
