Sheriff's Deputy Reserves Set To Graduate Through Partnership With The Memphis Police Department

Release Date: December 11, 2003

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office will graduate 20 reserve deputies in a ceremony this Saturday, December 13, 2003. What's unique is that the deputies received their training at the Memphis Police Department Training Academy.

“Our reserves play a vital role in being able to meet the growing demands in the neighborhoods in the unincorporated areas of Shelby County. We are grateful to Police Director James Bolden for allowing our deputies to attend the Memphis Police Academy,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr.

The Sheriff's Office could not conduct a reserve training class this year due to budget constraints. Instructors at the Sheriff's Office Training Academy would have had to work on nights and weekends to teach the classes.

“We are glad to assist Sheriff Luttrell and the citizens in the unincorporated areas of Shelby County. This is another example of how law enforcement partnerships can help keep citizens in all parts of Shelby County safe,” said Memphis Police Director James Bolden.

The Sheriff's Office reserve deputy graduation ceremony will be held Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 1:00 p. m., at Christian Brothers University, 650 East Parkway, in the theater.
