Memphis Man Dies In Early Morning Traffic Crash

Release Date: May 26, 2006

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigators say a Memphis man died early this morning in a one-vehicle crash in South-East Shelby County.

Deputies say about 6:30 this morning, Hamilton C. Hill, 19, of Memphis, was driving his Dodge Intrepid east on Shelby Drive when his vehicle veered of the road and hit a tree near Richmond Hills Drive.

The Shelby County Fire Department used rescue tools to get Hill out of the vehicle but he died at the scene.

Investigators believe Hill might have fallen asleep.  A witness to the crash told Deputies that that just moments before, when Hill was stopped at the intersection of Shelby Drive at Germantown Road, that he appeared to be resting while waiting for the light to change.

The motorist beside Hill’s vehicle said Hill’s head was back on the head restraint of his seat and his eyes were closed.

Investigators say Hill was not wearing a seatbelt.  Deputies DO NOT believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
