Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies now have pictures of at least two suspects believed to have robbed a mentally challenged woman in an East Shelby County restaurant parking lot earlier this month.

About 8:30 p.m. on April 1, the 20 year-old woman and her grandmother had just left a sandwich shop in the 9000 block of Highway 64 in Lakeland. As they walked up to their vehicle, two young men approached them.

One of the suspects took the disabled woman’s purse. The woman and her grandmother were not hurt. Although the two men made threatening gestures, it was not clear whether they were armed. Witnesses reported seeing the two men loitering in the parking lot before the robbery.

Moments after the robbery, the two suspects went to the Walmart Store nearby on Highway 64. Store security cameras took their pictures along with two other men. The four used the woman’s credit cards in the self-checkout line at the store. Here are descriptions of the two men who initially robbed the mentally-challenged woman:

• Suspect #1-black male, in his twenties, wearing a white tee shirt with dark or black pants
• Suspect #2-black male, in his twenties, wearing a black tee shirt, black pants and black ball cap

The other two young men seen with the robbery suspects are thought to be in their teens or early twenties. Both wore white tee shirts. One of the young men wore a red flowery ball cap.
