Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies and  Emergency Services volunteers are searching an area of North Shelby County tonight for a man and his two year-old daughter.

Deputies say the man had an argument with his girlfriend about 7:30 tonight as they rode in a pick up truck on Miller Road. After pulling the truck off the road, the argument continued.

Deputies say Jeffrey Wade, 49, who was visiting Shelby County from Louisiana, then tried to turn around. The truck slid backwards into a pond. Wade and his girlfriend, Thelma Estes, 33, of Covington, got out of the vehicle when the truck bed sank into the pond.

The couple then walked several hundred feet to the home of one of Ms. Estes' relatives. The relatives were baby-sitting Wade's daughter.

However, once inside the house at 8182 Miller Road, Wade abruptly took his daughter and started walking down Miller Road.

Relative called Sheriff's Deputies when he and the little girl didn't return.

A Memphis Police helicopter and Sheriff's Office Deputies and Rescue Volunteers are searching  the rural area.

Sheriff's Office search dogs are also looking for Wade and his daughter. With extreme cold temperatures, search teams say Wade and his little girl are in danger. Both had on coats when they left the house on Miller Road, but Deputies believe it may not be enough protection from the cold.

Searchers also say Wade's pants got wet when he had to climb out of the partially submerged truck earlier in the evening. 

The Tipton County Sheriff's Office is also helping in the search. Tipton County Deputies are contacting some of Wade's friends and  relatives who live in that community.

The missing man has now called relatives saying he and his daughter are safe.  Deputies have called off the search along Miller Road and are attempting to locate Wade and the child.
