About 60 Employees with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will team up tomorrow and next weekend with Memphis Light, Gas and Water workers to make improvements at several homes in the South Memphis area.
“Project MAX,” is a partnership between MLGW and Memphis area businesses. Volunteers from MLGW and the other companies will do minor plumbing, carpentry, and weather stripping on windows and doors. The workers will also do caulking, painting, and replace light bulbs at the homes.
“One of the most important jobs will be constructing ramps for the disabled. The wooden ramps will make it more convenient for the residents to get in and out of their homes,” said Lieutenant Freddie Hughes, of the Sheriff’s Office General Investigation Bureau.
Lieutenant Hughes, Lieutenant Ernest Long and Ms. Tyliekia Webb are coordinators of the Sheriff’s Office volunteer team which includes employees from the Law Enforcement, Jail and Administrative Divisions.
The team will begin work in the morning at 9 o’clock on three houses in the 100 block of First Avenue, the 70 block of Davant Avenue and the 300 block of Edsel Avenue. Sheriff’s Office volunteers will return to South Memphis again next Saturday to work on additional homes. This is the second year the Sheriff’s Office has been a partner with MLGW in “Project MAX.”
