Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies say a woman was killed this morning in a hit and run traffic crash on Hacks Cross Road just north of Holmes Road.

Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigators say about 7:15, Lavatrice Street, 42, of Memphis, was driving a Toyota SUV north on Hacks Cross and was approaching Shelby Drive when another car, a Volkswagen Passat, also going north, hit the SUV from behind knocking it off the road.

Deputies say the SUV then hit a utility pole and flipped over. Lavatrice Street, who was alone in the vehicle, was dead at the scene.

Investigators say the Volkswagen did not stop. However, Deputies found it not far from the crash scene on Hacks Cross. The driver was missing and Deputies began a search for the person driving the vehicle.

Deputies have detained a man, near Knight-Arnold and Perkins for questioning.
