Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies have now charged a Memphis man with First Degree Murder in connection with yesterday’s hit and run traffic crash on Hacks Cross Road near Shelby Drive.

Deputies believe the man purposely drove his vehicle into his former girlfriend’s SUV which hit a utility pole.

Deputies in the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Bureau and detectives with the Sheriff’s Office General Investigation Bureau say Lavatrice Street, 42, of East Shelby County, was killed about 7:15 yesterday morning.

Deputies say she was going north on Hacks Cross in a Toyota SUV when her former boyfriend, Shelly Minor, Jr. (a male), 41, of Memphis, crashed his Volkswagen Passat into the back of her SUV. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Minor didn’t stop after the crash. Deputies soon found his vehicle with severe damage on Hacks Cross Road not far from the crash scene. Investigators also discovered an Order of Protection in the Volkswagen that had been filed by Ms. Street last month.

Investigators say Ms. Street had filed the Order of Protection against Minor for threatening her and her daughters on several occasions.

A court case was scheduled about the Order of Protection was scheduled last week but Street did not appear at the hearing.

Deputies caught up with Minor about eleven o’clock yesterday morning at a relative’s home in the 5000 block of Bryndale Avenue in South-East Memphis.
