Sheriff’s Office Needs Reserve Deputies

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for a Reserve Deputy class that begins June 9, 2008.

“We currently have 161 Reserve Deputies serving with the Sheriff’s Office. Our goal is to eventually have 200 Reserve Deputies working in several bureaus,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Reserve Deputies receive 600 hours of training that include physical agility, the use of firearms and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.

Classes will be held at the Sheriff’s Office Training Academy at 993 Dovecrest on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 until 10:00. Saturday sessions will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Be 21 years-old
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Serve a minimum of 24 hours each month

The last day to apply for the class will be April 15, 2008. Applications may be mailed or picked up at the Sheriff’s Office Substation 11670 Memphis-Arlington Road in Arlington. For more information, contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Division at (901) 867-1440.
