People who want to buy items seized by Sheriff’s Deputies may now easily link to the information by computer. The day, time and items to be sold are listed at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office website,
http://www.shelby-sheriff.org/about/auctions
Website visitors have two choices. One link features specifics about items Deputies have seized by civil court order. For example, If a person defaults on a loan the creditor may get a court order for Deputies in the Sheriff’s Office Civil Bureau to seize a person’s real estate and other items of value which are then sold to make up for the owed money. Sheriff Deputies conduct many sales every year.
Money from civil judgment sales is eventually given to the creditors by the courts. The Sheriff’s Office also receives a small fee for conducting the auctions and to pay for real estate advertising in local daily circulation newspapers.
Deputies assigned to the Shelby County Narcotics Bureau also assist in a few sales each year regarding items they’ve seized from people who commit crimes. For example, vehicles involved in an illegal drug sale or a computer used to store information about stolen goods may be confiscated and auctioned. Money from the sales is used to pay for equipment used by the Narcotics Bureau Deputies.
