Cigarettes Taken In Smash and Grab Burglaries

Release Date: September 9, 2005

Smash and GrabShelby County Sheriff’s Detectives are looking for a man they believe has committed 13 convenience store burglaries recently. In each instance, the burglar has smashed the glass front door at the business and took cartons of cigarettes.

Twelve stores have been burglarized in the past month. One store at 3665 Canada Road has been burglarized twice, once on August 5th and again on August 29th.

The burglar has targeted stores in Lakeland, Arlington, Millington, Cordova and East Memphis. No one has been hurt in the burglaries since the stores were closed at the time.

The latest convenience store burglary happened in Arlington on September 8, 2005, at the Airline Market at 6115 Airline Road, about 2:30 in the morning. In that break-in, as with the others, the burglar shattered the front door of the business with possibly a hammer and then took several cartons of cigarettes.

Detectives believe the same man may be responsible for the crimes. A store camera from the burglary at the Airline Market on September 8 captured a picture of the suspect. Deputies say he is a black man, stands about Six (6) feet tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds.
