Traffic Crash in South Shelby County Leaves One Person Dead
Release Date: February 18, 2004
A man was killed today when the pick-up truck he was driving crashed into an MLGW service truck that was parked on Shelby Drive near Hacks Cross Road.
The accident happened just after Noon today in the 8700 block of East Shelby Drive. Sheriff's deputies say warning cones had been placed near the MLGW truck. However, the driver of the pick-up truck apparently didn't see the construction zone until it was too late.
One of the MLGW workers received minor injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic investigators say blood alcohol tests will be conducted to see whether alcohol was a factor. Officers say the man was not wearing a seatbelt.
The identity of the man killed in today's crash will not be released until his family has been notified.
