Release Date: December 5, 2005

Saturation ArrestsDeputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office conducted a major crime suppression initiative this past Friday night (December 2, 2005) in South-East Shelby County and Hickory Hill.

Acting on crime statistics for home burglaries, vehicle break-ins and other crimes committed in those areas, more than 75 deputies and 25 support personnel from the Sheriff’s Emergency Services and Special Services Squads worked for eight hours concluding the operation about 2 a.m., Saturday, December 3rd.

“We want to reassure people who live and work in the South-East Shelby County that the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is concerned about criminal activity that is occurring in the area. With some of the crimes being linked to criminal gangs we must use all of our resources to keep these neighborhoods as safe as possible,” said Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr.

Deputies from various divisions of the Sheriff’s Office rounded up wanted persons, conducted search warrants, addressed street crime and wrote traffic violations. Officers with the Memphis Police Department who serve on the Metro Gang Unit also took part in the effort.

Officers focused their efforts near Shelby Drive and Hacks Cross in South East Shelby County and in neighborhoods south of Winchester near Tchulahoma. Deputies also conducted seatbelt check-points at various intersections.
