Patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to meet the Shelby County Sheriff and be entertained by his staff next week

Release Date: June 13, 2003

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell and many others from the Sheriff’s Office will be spending part of their day next Monday visiting with patients and staff members at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale near downtown Memphis. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at Noon.

“Being in the hospital can be a frightening experience. Our visit will hopefully remind the children and their families that we are thinking about them at this difficult time,” said Sheriff Mark Luttrell.

Here’s the agenda for the program:

  • “Proclamation of Appreciation” by Sheriff Luttrell to thank the hospital for its efforts to help children with catastrophic illnesses
  • Musical selections by the Shelby County Jail Employees Choir
  • Swearing-In of patients as “Junior Deputies” by Sheriff Luttrell
  • Musical selection by bagpipe player, Patrolman Gordon Abernathie
  • Display and demonstration of a squad car and motorcycle from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division and the Crime Prevention Unit.

“We are grateful to St. Jude for allowing us to visit. We hope the program will be as encouraging for the patients as it has been for us to plan it,” said Sheriff Luttrell.
