Shelby County Sheriff's detectives have charged a Shelby County man for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of construction supplies found at his South-East Shelby County home yesterday.
Steven Wesley, 36, faces a Theft of Property over $60,000 charge. Deputies discovered more than a quarter of a million dollars worth of items taken from new homes under construction at his home at 10464 Holmes Road.
Investigators say the items, many of which were custom made for expensive homes, were stolen from new subdivisions in Shelby County, Marshall and Desoto Counties in Mississippi during the past several months.
Shelby County Sheriff's detectives say on December 27, 2007, a home builder filed a report with detectives about a mailbox stolen from a subdivision in Marshall County Mississippi. He said he saw the mailbox in front of Wesley’s home.
When Sheriff's Deputies went to the home yesterday afternoon, they verified the custom mailbox was the one stolen. After getting a search warrant, Deputies discovered stolen goods belonging to at least 15 home building companies and contractors.
Deputies found custom hardwood flooring, tile, cabinets, copper roofing and other items stacked to the ceiling in various rooms and the garage.
Detectives from the Marshall County Mississippi Sheriff's Office as well as other law enforcement agencies are assisting Shelby County Sheriff's detectives in the investigation.
