Sheriff Luttrell and Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers’ Association To Honor Students Who Say “NO” To Alcohol and Drugs

Three Shelby County area students have won awards from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers’ Association for writing essays. The students will be honored this Thursday, May 25, 2006. The program will be held at 201 Poplar, 9th Floor, in the Sheriff’s Office Administrative Conference Room at 1:30 p.m.

The students expressed their views in the essay contest titled, “Why I Will Say No to Alcohol and Drugs.” The cash prize winners from the Shelby County area are:

• First Place-Janiece Dodson-Wooddale Middle School-$300.00

• Second Place-Ashley Schnyder-Dexter Middle School-$200.00

• Third Place-Paige Bolden-Mt. Pisgah Middle School-$100.00

The annual competition was open to 8th graders from public or private schools in Memphis and Shelby County. Home-schooled students were also eligible.

Several Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office are members of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers’ Association. They will join Sheriff Luttrell in presenting the awards to the winners at the ceremony.
