Students Who Say “NO” Could Earn Cash

Release Date: November 14, 2006

Eighth grade school students from across Tennessee have an opportunity to win a cash award in an essay contest titled, “Why I Will Say No to Alcohol and Drugs.”

The annual contest is sponsored by the Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers’ Association. For the past nine years the association has honored students through the essay competition to sway children away from the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

Several Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office are members of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers’ Association. Deputies want 8th graders from public or private schools in Memphis and Shelby County to enter the contest. Home-schooled students are also eligible.

The TLEOA will award cash prizes to the first, second and third place winners in each of the association’s nine districts throughout the state.  Contest entries will be judged in each district.

Winners will be notified in the spring of 2007. First Place winners will receive $300.00, Second Place $200.00 and Third Place winners will receive $100.00

Completed applications should be postmarked by January 20, 2007 and returned to:
